Finding the right care, at the right place, at the right time
With so many options for care – whether it is primary care, urgent care or emergency care – it can be confusing to know where to go when you need treatment.
It’s always good to have a relationship with a primary care doctor for routine care and nonemergency treatments. Your primary care doctor will be familiar with your health history and can recommend specialists when you need them. You can find the primary care doctor that’s right for you here.
If you’re injured or ill outside of your primary care doctor’s regular hours, you can chose an urgent care center. Urgent care providers can treat sprains, strains and minor injuries and illnesses. You can call your primary care provider for advice and direction in the event you feel you may need urgent or emergency care.
Emergency departments are open 24/7 and staffed with specialized physicians who use advanced medical and surgical equipment. Emergency care is the most expensive choice for care, and should only be used for serious problems, injuries or life-threatening conditions. If you are experiencing a health emergency, call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest Emergency Department.
